Common Questions.

Direct answers about how SLS works, who we represent, and what to expect.

What types of employment cases does Sims Legal Services handle?

SLS handles a wide range of employment matters including discrimination, workplace harassment and hostile work environments, sexual harassment, retaliation and whistleblower protection, leaves of absence, pay equity, worker misclassification, and wage & hour violations.

Does Sims Legal Services represent employers or employees?

SLS primarily represents individual employees and workers. Having previously represented employers at top-100 law firms, Trey Sims brings a unique perspective that gives workers a strategic edge in understanding how companies approach legal disputes.

Does SLS offer flexible fee arrangements?

Yes. Sims Legal Services offers flexible fee structures designed for real people and mission-driven organizations. Fee arrangements are discussed during your initial consultation.

How does Sims Legal Services use AI in legal practice?

SLS applies AI under strict attorney control at every stage of a matter. A licensed attorney directs and approves all work; the firm controls which AI systems may ever touch a matter and excludes adverse platforms; every citation and factual claim is independently verified before it leaves the firm; deadlines are computed from governing authority rather than guessed; and every work product carries a record of how it was produced. SLS runs on infrastructure it owns and controls. Used this way, AI is a force multiplier that lets a focused firm bring outsized capability to each client — never a substitute for a lawyer's judgment, and always disclosed.

Does SLS pursue the value of lost or unvested equity as part of a worker's recovery?

Recovering the full, lawful value of what a worker lost is central to how SLS builds a case — and for many clients that includes equity. When unlawful conduct such as discrimination or retaliation forces someone out and causes them to forfeit unvested RSUs, stock options, or other equity, California's “make-whole” remedial framework under the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) is designed to restore what was wrongfully taken. SLS pursues economic damages to the full extent the law allows, which can include the value of lost or forfeited equity where the facts and the law support it. Every case is different and no result is guaranteed, but equity is treated as a core part of the recovery — not an afterthought.
